About the ProjectLast year I decided to build a YXR100 in addition to my YSR50 bike to run in the 2006 season. My plan was to build it during the off-season with plenty of time to dedicate to the project before the next race. I already had a spare chassis, ready to roll, minus a few bolts here and there. Of course, during the off-season time and money became a factor and it was impossible to get the project under way until the beginning of the 2006 season. I took advantage of the monetary lapse to do all my research until the project could get going. When the first race of the season came around I realized my worst off-season fears. The Super sport YSR50 class was dead, which left me without a class for the ysr. I was the only entry in our first endurance race, and the next class up was too big a step for my YSR to compete with. That day I decided I'd have a Honda XR100 dirt bike motor in my current frame before the next round. Four weeks to find a motor, get it in, de-bugged, and ready to race sounded reasonable but turned into a real headache. The project itself isn't a difficult one given the proper amount of time, knowledge and money. I was tight on all three fronts. My spare chassis was missing its gas tank so my project turned from building a “yxr” into disassembling my ysr and replacing its 2-stroke motor with the XR’s 4-stroke. This meant that if the swap were not finished in time, I wouldn't have a bike to race. |
